April 27, Cuba, in Havana finished the International Convention of Public Health “Cuba Salud 2018”. During 5 days of the event took place numerous meetings, conferences, business round tables, where Cuba was recognized as a guide in health care for all countries of the region.
Director of the SPbSRIVS Victor Trukhin and General Manager of Russian-Nicaraguan Latin-American Institute of Biotechnology MECHNIKOV Stanislav Uiba took part in the business program of the Convention. During the Convention representatives of the Russian biofarmaceutical industry had the working meeting with the General Director of the WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus y Director of the PAHO Carissa Etienne. In the frame of the discussion was confirmed the importance of the project MECHNIKOV in Nicaragua. The MECHNIKOV project is carried out in cooperation with the CECMED – regulatory body of Cuba.
“Today the half of the world lack the access to the essential services and almost 100 million of the human beings living every year in the extreme poverty due to the cost of health services they can’t afford” – said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Doctor Carissa Etienne also contrasted the Cuban reality with the countries of the Americas that have not been able to overcome the barriers to access to health. She revealed, “more than a third part of the inhabitants of the region have no access to the health services. In the period 2013-2014 there were more than 1.2 million of the deaths, which could have been avoided if the health systems had offered accessible and quality services”. One of the key goal of the MECHNIKOV is to improve the level of the health services in Nicaragua and in the whole region.
International Convention of Public Health “Cuba Salud 2018” and Exhibition, which was held during the Convention assisted Roberto Morales Ojeda, vice president of the Council of State and Minister of Health of Cuba; José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, member of Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party; Cristian Morales, PAHO representative in Cuba, and other members of government, doctors, medical students of the Island and abroad. At the final closing ceremony took part 81 delegations from all over the world, 27 Ministers of Health and more than 1 620 Cubans and 1 630 foreigners from 94 countries.
