April, 11, Latin American institute of biotechnology MECHNIKOV received honored guests from the Ministry of Health of Russia, Nicaraguan Institute of the Social Security (INSS), Federal medical-biological agency of Russia, CECMED and WHO/PAHO, who united in Managua to participate in Russian-Nicaraguan Technical Advisory Committee.
This time meeting of the Technical Committee was highlighted by the invited participants: Sergey Kraevoy, Deputy Minister of Health of Russia and Vladimir Uiba, Head of the Russian Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA of Russia). The Director Victor Trukhin and Deputy director Anatoly Evtushenko represented St. Petersburg Institute of vaccines and serums. “Also this meeting is distinguished because of representatives of the Russian regulatory body took part in the sessions. Vadim Merkulov from the Scientific Center for expertise of medical facilities of the Ministry of Health and Vladislav Shestakov from Federal Institute of medicines and good practices. It is very important and profitable for the dynamic and sustainable development of the MECHNIKOV project in the region,” – said Stanislav Uiba, General Manager of the Latin American institute of biotechnology MECHNIKOV.
Advisory Committee monitors current situation and the progress of the process of technology transfer for the production of the immunobiological and biological products from Russia to Nicaragua. Members of the Committee positively evaluated the actual state and confirmed the completion of the previously announced plan for the MECHNIKOV project. Also during the meeting, participants discussed the issue of using the MECHNIKOV production plant as an additional center for professional practice and recruitment of specialists. Currently for the preparation of the personnel reserve SPbSRIVS together with University UNAN-MANGUA and specialists of the MECHNIKOV is working under the pilot project of the training camp for the teenagers.
Excursion to the production site
Within the framework of the Committee meeting, guests visited the production site of the Latin American institute of biotechnology MECHNIKOV, where they learned about the process of filling and packaging the influenza vaccine. After the excursion to the production Deputy Minister of Health of Russia Sergey Kraevoy described: “This production site can produce up to 30 million doses of the vaccine annually”, in the future we are planning to expand the pipeline of the medicines.
Dra. Socorro Gross Galiano – representative of the WHO/PAHO in Nicaragua – attracted attention of the audience to the huge potential of the MECHNIKOV: “We consider this project as a very important and that it is also oriented on sustainable development, which is lead to access to universal coverage of vaccines and quality medicines”. “This project is very meaningful not only for Nicaragua, but also for the whole region… Nicaragua is the first country of the Central America, which will possess own production of the high quality vaccines”, – added Dra. Socorro Gross Galiano.
About the Russian-Nicaraguan Technical Advisory Committee
In the February 2015 during the negotiations in Managua, Republic of Nicaragua, was formed Russian-Nicaraguan Technical Advisory Committee for the issues of the technology transfer in the fiend of healthcare. The Committee consists of the representatives of the interested institutions of the both countries, also representatives of the WHO/PAHO and CECMED as a regional regulatory body, added to the Committee by WHO.
